6/22/01: I am considering the elimination of the tables in favor of CSS. I have already converted the whole menu at the top to CSS (not in an active file), so it is certainly possible. It is a compatability issue. I do not know if I wish to maintain two versions of the site. Please offer your feedback on this issue if you understand it.
6/24/01: I have decided against a complete CSS remake of the site. Instead I simply made a frameset version that used a menu completely created with CSS only. At this time CSS does not offer me the freedom of design (and convenience) that I am looking for. When it does, or when the W3C deprecates tables, I will get around to it.
6/30/01: I was considering a few other versions of the site. Among them were text only and Flash versions. I am eventually going to make a Flash version, but it will only be the menus, not the body (like the CSS version). The text version has been canceled. I have tested the noframes version in browsers such as Lynx and WannaBe. It renders quite nicely, I must say, and for this reason a text version will never be developed.
8/15/01: The plans for a Flash and CSS version have been canceled for now. I am not going to work on the Flash version because it is completely unnecessary. The CSS version will not arrive for support reasons. When support is a little more widespread I may change my mind. The other reason is the fact that the templates I use to update multiple versions at once will not work with a CSS only page because the rest of the site uses tables. That means two versions and I am not interested in doubling my work at this time. Other than that I am going to pay those vampires at TheCounter.com and see how powerful their reports are (no SSI at this time), I am going to start some freebie WebSite Buttons, a few more Tutorials, and when they are complete, the Search CGI will be completed as well. Thanks for the visit in this low-content stage and come back. Oh, DoaE? After the CGI Search Engine it will be attacked.
9/8/01: Thank you for visiting. I have been working for Cisco (not web design) for the past month and for that reason I have not had any time to update the web page. Over this period of time, however, I have been able to locate the last few causes of CSS errors. I have fixed all of them but one. Mozilla 0.9.3 still wont display page backgrounds, and I suspect it is because of the design.css page [offline] (this is my CSS sheet). I will look into it in times to come. I am still going to get the search engine up and running for NoFrames, and after that finish the search .pl file’s HTML. Aside from this not much remains other than a CSS Netscape 4.7 version—I know what needs to be done for this to work, I simply haven’t had the time yet. Either way, I am going to attack content soon.
9/13/01: No updates lately, I don’t feel like it for obvious reasons. Aside from that, hektik.org posted an article that I have not seen yet, and thought I should certainly share with anyone that comes to this site. I have included it below. I also found this link, which you can use to help. Donate computer equipment to help with the issue at hand.
10/8/01: There are some big changes on the way. I am finally settling on a design that I will like. I sat down for the first time in a while to really work on the web page. Rather than start with the content I redesigned the whole look. I am going to put that into place first, and then following it, the content. There are simply too many quirks associated with this otherwise great design... too many CSS battles to keep everything smooth. I am going to come up with one simply, but eloquent design for the whole site. I am also going to dispose of the frames version and the frames CSS version. It is great to have them, I suppose, but I am sick of trying to make things look good in frames. The new version loads 2 times as fast, which should eliminate the greatest reason to keep a frames version. This will be the last appearance update until CSS2 is widespread and well supported. Look for it soon. Also, I am no longer updating the NoFrames version in any way starting right now
10/20/01: Well… the page is complete other than basic minor fixes that seem to be taking 10 minutes every day. I have already started working on content. I am in the process of making a frames tutorial that is already half way done, sure to be done soon. After that comes more tutorials at a steady pace, perhaps even some on C++ from my good friend Justin… If I am fortunate. Other than that, look for great additions to the site appearing from this point on. Design is finally complete, I have a page layout that I am more than happy with, and I simply have nothing left to do when it comes to fiddling with the site’s layout.
11/6/01: Things are falling together nicely. I am now happy with my design other than a few minor details – for example some pages that don’t display well at 800x600 – so my main objective at this point is content. I am taking this time to come up with set formats for pages so everything appears the same from one to another and I am also converting many pages to display well on 640x480. Additional tutorials will arrive at this point and with any luck some others will decide to contribute. Thanks for the visit and please enjoy.
12/8/01: AT&T @home went down (Excite @home went bankrupt) taking my cable Internet connection with them about a week ago. I thought about updating locally despite the inconvenience, but I eventually decided against it opting for a break instead. I am still relaxing and will continue to do so through the holidays (the only time of the year my whole family is around). Today I begin again with the occasional update but they will remain small until January when I start updating again full-force. Thank you for your visit and happy holidays.
