Rot3K Graphics and Web – Site Elements (CSS/JS)
In addition to the XHTML,
CSS, and JavaScript contained on
any given page there are also other numerous external files that each page requires
for proper display.
You can get the links from the source code, but this page
makes things more convenient in the event you want to see how something was
done (and for me when I want to view files from remote locations).
By each item on this page there is an “info”
option. You may click on this option to bring up the document’s explanation
directly below the link. Clicking on the “info” option a second
time hides the explanation.
All the “theme” style sheets have an “activate”
option next to the document link. You can click on the “activate”
option to activate the theme in question (replacing the old one). Please not
that in order for themes to work cookies must be enabled.
CSS (Cascading Style Sheet) Site Files
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/prime.css
(info)
Prime.css is Rot3K’s
basic and most accessible style sheet. Any styles that I want all CSS enabled
browsers to see, and that I want active across all themes, will be placed here.
Netscape 4.x and company can see the styles here, so as a result it contains
only the most basic of formatting.
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/print.css
(info)
When you print a page from
Rot3K the browser will display the printed page according to the specifications
in this style sheet (and will ignore the styles in every other style sheet on
this site). The styles in this document tell the browser to only print the main
content of a page using special formatting custom written for printers (as opposed
to screen display).
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/norm.css
(info) (activate)
Norm.css is the default theme of Rot3K Graphics and Web
and is based off shades of blue with a stonework-like background. “Default”
(norm.css) is very colorful.
This “theme” is enabled or disabled using the
style sheet menu.
Font Face: 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans serif.
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/v5.css
(info)
This is the most important
style sheet on the site. In v5.css I store the site layout, margins, and all
basic paragraph formatting. V5.css is hidden from old browsers like Netscape
4.x because the contents of this file are usually rendered incorrectly. All
colors, backgrounds, font sizes, and font faces are defined in the theme style
sheets.
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/season.css
(info) (activate)
The “Seasonal” theme uses backgrounds, headers,
and colors inspired by the current season (on a year-round American calendar).
If you choose the site’s presentation will change four times a year to
match the general image of the current season. Rot3K Graphics and Web used
to receive a face lift every season to be festive; this is what inspired the
“Seasonal” theme.
This “theme” is enabled or disabled using the
style sheet menu.
Font Face: 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans serif. In order for your theme
selection to carry over to future sessions cookies must be enabled in your
browser (which they are by default).
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/paper.css
(info) (activate)
The “paper” theme (paper.css) is presented in
the same brownish yellow shades that you might find on an old document. Because
this theme uses a sans serif font it will look much better if your browser
supports anti-aliasing at this font size.
This “theme” is enabled or disabled using the
style sheet menu.
Font Face: 12px Georgia, “Times New Roman”, Times, serif. In order
for your theme selection to carry over to future sessions cookies must be enabled
in your browser (which they are by default).
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/paperhi.css
(info) (activate)
The “high resolution paper” theme (paperhi.css)
is like the “paper” theme (paper.css) in appearance, but there
are some major differences. The font sizes are relative to your preferences,
making it a good choice for people with poor vision or large monitors, and
it is also the only theme that keeps the right-hand menu onscreen when you
scroll down the page. Although this makes navigation easier, a high-resolution
monitor is needed to keep the whole menu bar onscreen (and thus this theme
is not for everyone). Because this theme uses a sans serif font it will look
much better if your browser supports anti-aliasing at this font size.
This “theme” is enabled or disabled using the
style sheet menu.
Font Face: small Georgia, “Times New Roman”, Times, serif. Text
sizes in this theme are based off your browser preferences and will usually
default to a slightly larger size than normal. This is a good theme for people
with high-resolution monitors. In order for your theme selection to carry over
to future sessions cookies must be enabled in your browser (which they are
by default).
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/access.css
(info) (activate)
This theme (access.css) is a modification of the default
theme (norm.css). It is colorful and based off the shade of blue, but font
sizes are larger than usual and navigation does not depend on the ability to
discern colors (e.g. links are all underlined). This is a good selection for
colorblind viewers, people with poor vision, and viewers that own very high-resolution
monitors.
This “theme” is enabled or disabled using the
style sheet menu.
Font Face: 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans serif. Text sizes in this theme
are based off your browser preferences and will usually default to a slightly
larger size than normal. This is a good theme for people with high-resolution
monitorsor degraded vision. In order for your theme selection to carry over
to future sessions cookies must be enabled in your browser (which they are
by default).
http://rot3k.com/elements/css/saccess.css
(info) (activate)
This theme (saccess.css) is a modification of the paper
theme (paper.css). Colors are based off the same brownish yellow appearance
of old paper, but font sizes are larger than usual (based off your browser
preferences) and navigation does not depend on the ability to discern colors
(e.g. links are all underlined). This is a good selection for colorblind viewers,
people with poor vision, and viewers that own very high-resolution monitors.

JavaScript Site Files
http://rot3k.com/elements/js/siteuniv.js
(info)
This file (siteuniv.js) contains
snippets of JavaScript that are frequently used across the site. Functions include
preventing the site from being opened in a frame and popup window scripts, among
other things.
http://rot3k.com/elements/js/styleswitcher.js
(info)
http://rot3k.com/elements/js/fixed.js
(info)
Normally Internet Explorer 5.x through 6.x does not support
fixed positioning of elements (a CSS technique that fixes the onscreen location
of an element regardless of vertical scrolling). The “paper high-resolution”
theme on this site makes use of fixed positioning to keep the right-hand menu
onscreen as you scroll down.
Andrew Clover published this script to enable this feature
in Internet Explorer 5.x through 6.0.x. All you have to do is link to the .js
file in the header, set up your CSS normally, and support is enabled. It does
not impact other browsers at all. Here
is the home page for this script (which explains a little more about usage).
